Dr. Andrew Mather

For over 15 years, Dr. Andrew Mather has been a trusted name in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Edmonton. Recognized for his surgical expertise, professionalism, and patient-focused approach, Dr. Mather has helped countless patients improve their oral health, facial aesthetics, and quality of life.

Professional Background
& Qualifications

Dr. Mather is a board-certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. His extensive training includes:

  • Doctorate of Dental Surgery – University of Toronto, recognized for outstanding academic achievement.

  • General Surgical Residency – University of Illinois, Chicago, gaining hands-on experience in complex oral and facial procedures.

  • Specialty Training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery – University of Manitoba, earning a Master of Science degree in oral cancer research.

Dr. Mather has trained under some of the world’s leading specialists, refining his skills in implantology, bone grafting, and facial reconstruction.
 

  • Esthetic Implantology & Bone Grafting – Apprenticeship under Dr. Daniel Buser at the University of Bern, Switzerland, a world leader in implantology.

  • Craniofacial Trauma & Facial Reconstruction – Internship under Dr. Edward Ellis III at Southwestern University, Dallas, where he gained expertise in complex facial trauma and reconstruction.

Practice Philosophy & Patient Care

 

Dr. Mather founded Gateway Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 2010, combining advanced surgical techniques with compassionate, patient-centered care.

His practice focuses on:

  • Dental implants and bone grafting

  • Corrective jaw surgery

  • Wisdom tooth removal

 

Dr. Mather is currently the Section Head of Maxillofacial Surgery at Viking Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital, where he holds surgical privileges.

Our surgical center offers a professional yet comfortable environment where patients feel at ease. From consultation to surgery, our skilled team ensures every visit is smooth, stress-free, and focused on the highest level of care.

Your First Visit

A first visit can come with questions and concerns, and we’re here to ensure you feel fully informed and comfortable before making any decisions.

What to Expect

Your appointment will include a consultation with Dr. Mather, where he will:​

  • Discuss your referral and treatment options

  • Review your medical history and any X-rays

  • Explain procedures, recovery, and next steps

 

For simple cases, treatment may be performed on the same day. However, more complex procedures or those requiring IV sedation or general anesthesia will be scheduled separately.

What to Bring​

  • Referral slip and X-rays (if available)

  • A list of current medications

  • A parent/guardian if under 18

 

A detailed treatment plan, fee estimate, and insurance information will also be provided at your visit.

Financial Information

At Gateway Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, we follow the Alberta Dental Association’s specialist fee guide to ensure fair and transparent pricing.

If you have dental insurance, please bring your insurance card or form to your consultation. We will provide a detailed cost estimate and can assist with submitting a pre-authorization to help you understand your coverage.

Payment & Financing Options

  • Payment is required on the day of treatment, unless prior arrangements have been made.

  • We accept Visa, MasterCard, debit cards, and money orders.

  • Personal cheques are not accepted.

  • Flexible payment plans may be available for eligible treatments. Please contact our office or call
    (780) 760-1501 to discuss financing options.

Insurance Responsibility

Patients are fully responsible for all fees, regardless of their insurance coverage. For questions about coverage or payment options, contact our office.
